Every day I give my children a fish oil for kids, a multi-vitamin, and prebiotic.  These supplements provide me with peace of mind when it comes to my children’s nutrition.  Often, I fight with one of my girls on eating well and nourishing food. Although, I am a personal trainer, my children didn’t catch the memo that they need to eat all things healthy.  Instead, they opt for something like pizza and boxed mac n cheese any day.  Don’t get me wrong they eat fruits and vegetables too, but I don’t think they get enough to meet their essential vitamin needs.

Supplements are a great tool to help kids get what they need

When you say you give your kids supplements, you often get a dirty look. I know as a child, I took supplements.  My Mom gave my Flintstone vitamins daily.  I thought it was a fun candy treat. I didn’t realize it was filling in the gaps for where my nutrition was lacking.  I never considered giving my daughter a supplement for omega-3s until I heard all the positive benefits. I give my children supplements because it gives me peace of mind; they are getting all they need daily.

Benefits of Fish Oil for Kids

There are many benefits to people who take a supplement for Omega-3, which is an excellent addition to a balanced diet.  The Omega 3’s and 6s found in quality fish oil can help nurture and maintain healthy brain function.  It’s great to improve and maintain eye health as well as nervous system health.  There have also been studies that show an association with behavior and temperant in children and their consumption of fish oil.

Bioglan Fish Oil for Kids

Finding a Quality Fish Oil for kids

I try to be aware and make informed choices on supplements for my girls and myself.  I have recently been introduced to Bioglan Kids Smart High DHA Fish Oil.  My girls love the fun Burstlets. Each burstlet is shaped like little “fishies,” as my daughter calls them as she requests to take hers daily.  When you twist the tail and squeeze, you get tasty fish oil. There is no fishy taste because Kids Smart Chewable Burstlets are micro-encapsulated. , so there is no fish taste! Instead, it tastes like Grape, Orange, and other fun flavors.  They’re so tasty Milah always wants more Burstlets.

Why are Kids Smart High DHA Fish Oil Chewable Burstlets better than other Fish Oil Supplements for Kids?

Kids Smart Chewable Burstlets provides more than ten times the fish oil than most kids supplements on the market.  They are gluten, yeast, wheat, and dairy-free supplements.  Kids Smart High DHA fish oil chewable burstlets also contains two essential omega-3 fatty acids called docosahexaenoic known as (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid known as EPA. Both of these fatty acids are essential because the body does not produce them on their own.  The only way to get these essential fatty acids is through foods high in them or supplements.  Most kids won’t eat enough fish to get the benefits of DHA and EPA.  That’s why I supplement mine with these fun chewable capsules that have a tasty berry flavor.

Where can I find Kids Smart High DHA fish oil chewable burstlets?

If you’re looking to give your children a better quality, higher potency, and tasty chewable supplement, I want to recommend Kids Smart High DHA Fish Oil Chewable Burstlets.  They come in a 30 count bottle or 180 counts.  Use this link to purchase yours today?

How I eat like a women’s figure competitor?

This is a sponsored post on women’s figure competition eating habits from NOWFoods and Perdue Farms although I am compensated for this post. My thoughts are my own.  My Full Disclosure Policy

My Second Women’s Figure Competition

In May, I am competing in my second women’s figure competition. My first time I had disappointing results, but I believe it’s the result of the effort I put into my prep.   This time I am training to win before I was training to compete, and I now believe m. I have a new coach this prep, too, and I am following the HK Fitness plan to the letter.  I want to see if I put my all into my prep what the results could be, and I feel I have a great coach to help.  Trainers need trainers, and I have the best. Now I have to do the work.  No matter what he plans for me. If I don’t execute, it doesn’t matter.

It’s hard to be disciplined about food

The biggest and I think the hardest thing for people is food.  Being taught is hard when you let your emotions lead you.  This is where I feel my strength is I can be very disciplined with food. It’s pushing myself in the gym where I lack.  I need accountability.  I am starting my prep, and I will no longer be eating to bulk up.  In this phase, I am eating around 2,500 calories a day, and the results are already showing up. The question I get asked the most is, “What are you eating?” I plan to share my journey more this round.  Here is what I eat daily while I am trying to bulk for my second OCB Figure Competition.

Timing is key

The amounts of food vary for everyone. There is a science to bodybuilding, and I think one of my most significant attractions.  By manipulating the

  • timing of your food,
  • types of food,
  • amounts of food,
  • and workout routine,

you can literally transform your body into a lean, defined person within weeks. But you have to be intentional by weighing and measuring your food.  You also have t be intentional about the carbs, protein, and fats that you eat and what time.  Keeping your meals consistent and on a timed regimen is vital. So far, my problem isn’t the food I have to eat, but the timing is my problem.

Food timing is my struggle while bulking for a figure competition

I have been struggling with food timing. Often I find myself full and still needing to eat three meals at 7 pm.  It took me about three weeks to figure out a schedule that didn’t end up in frustrating tears. Timing my pre-workout meals has also been hard and something that I am trying to find some consistency. At the moment, it’s hard to have a consistent workout schedule for many reasons. First, I get up way too early in the morning, meaning I go to bed early at night.  So, I am at the gym training 6–7 am, my midday I am with my five years old and my evenings are either training or chauffeuring my girls.  It’s hard to find a schedule that I can stick to food timing is especially hard when you’re trying to squeeze in a workout. I plan on planning better to get through this prep.  You can watch my effort, progress, and transformation on my Instagram Stories.

What do I eat bulking for a women’s figure competition?

I eat a lot! That is not an understatement. I eat 2561 calories a day of quality proteins, fat, carbohydrates, and supplements all spread out among six meals a day.  I initially was eating less but was increased after some adjustments.  The thing about bodybuilding is everybody is different, so what has worked for me might not work for you. That’s why I shy away from generalized meal plans.  It doesn’t take into account individuals’ somatypes and metabolism.  They often initially work because a calorie deficit will help you to lose weight, that is a fact. No matter how the deficit is made up of less protein, carbs, or fats or higher protein, carbs, or fats. If you are eating fewer calories than the energy you are expending, then you will lose weight.  If you eat more calories than energy expending, you will gain. That’s why diets work if you work the diet.  Within this four week phase, there had to be some adjustments made based on my body’s response.

Phase 1

womens figure bulking meal plan

How I meal prep

Although I am bulking, I still need to measure my food and eat good food.  I have to measure each portion out.  Meal prepping can be overwhelming for me, so I do things a little differently.

  1. Making all the protein ahead of time makes prepping food easy.
  2. Once they are all cooked, I measure them an place them in individual containers.
  3. Then I add the sides.
  4. I make some ahead of time, but I tend to make the vegetables every couple of days.
  5. My meal preps are usually two days at a time.

I prefer to prep containers two days at a time because it’s not as overwhelming as a five-day prep. My meal plan is also subject to change on Saturday, so prepping long term can backfire.  My old coach didn’t change my meal plan up, so I was more comfortable. I knew what I was going to eat every day for 12 weeks. It got really old, really quick, and I had an aversion to certain foods for a while, it is still hard to eat certain food combinations.  I also like to purchase my seafood every two days. I prefer fresh food but when on a budget I will buy frozen. The process doesn’t take much time with these few meal prep hacks.

Food timing is essential in bodybuilding

The importance of timing is valuable, but what you eat is just as important.  HK plans all the meals that I eat six a day at a specific time. He also took into consideration my food intolerances and allergies.  Knowing what to eat and when makes the journey less daunting and why I recommend a coach.   My pre-workout, Intra-workout, and post-workout food and supplement intake are essential. For my pre-workout, I usually eat a meal that is a high protein, carbohydrates, and a little bit of quality fat. My pre-workout meals while I was bulking consist of things like:

PreWorkout Meal

  • Eggs
  • Gluten-Free English Muffins
  • Spinach
  • Oatmeal
  • Strawberries
  • and Peanut Butter

Adjustments are necessary when bulking for  a women’s figure competition

Everyone bulks different, but the goal for me was to get into a food routine and to eat good food.  There were adjustments after the first three weeks of bulking and seeing any body composition change.  At least very little with some tweaks, I feel noticeably different.  After switching my food and timing, I started to put on muscle without adding a lot of fat.

Adjustment

Supplements while bulking for women’s figure competition

The supplements I took during my bulking phase are very similar to the supplements I take every day.  My daily supplement intake is not as systematic as it is while I am prepping.

Supplements while bulking for womens figure competition

Supplements I take Daily

Multi-Vitamin

  • a multivitamin is excellent to support where your nutrition leaves off. I wish I could consume all I need in food but some things I can’t eat enough good for you food to get what I need.  Daily I take a multivitamin from NowFoods.

Fish-Oil

Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics

  • digestive enzymes twice a day and a probiotic every morning.  Gut health is critical for us to perform at our best.  I use the Now Probiotic 10, which is essential for healthy digestion.  I also take Digestive Enzymes with my meals to help aid the absorption of my food and fully utilize the nutrients that I eat.  It also helps me with belly bloat, which is my immediate reaction to most foods.

Supplements I take during my workouts.

BCAAs and 20 oz. Gatorade Zero is part of my Intra workout hydration. I also drink the effervescent tabs in my water towards the end and post-workout if there is any left. I like to drink a lot during my workouts. Staying hydrated is a vital part of your workout.   You need to replace the water you lose when you sweat. BCAAs are like fuel for building muscle. It’s a great aid in muscle growth if you drink during your workout, but it also helps preserve muscles so you can drink it post-workout too.  But it’s not a replacement for drinks like juice or soda. I drink the effervescent tabs in my water because they have electrolytes in them, a fun fizz, and a light flavor.

Supplements I take post workouts

I would use NowFoods Vanilla Toffee Protein Powder. I choose NOWFoods for my Supplement and food supplies for several reasons. First, they are affordable, compared to other supplement brands you can get the same thing at NOWFoods for so much less.  Second, NOWFoods is a trusted source for natural health products and supplements since 1968. Their company is a foundation of quality, and I trust all the ingredients in their products. Affordability and quality are comforting when choosing a supplement source and brand.  I use NOWFood products every day in a different way. Got to nowfoods.com get 20% off your purchase with coupon code “FAITHFUELED.”

How much does it cost to bulk?

My personal grocery bill is $110 a week to bulk. That’s eating some organic and all grass-fed beef,wild-caught, but and I prefer Perdue Harvestland Chicken. I trust in Perdue for my protein source, whether its chicken, turkey, or beef. Over the last ten years, Perdue has been making efforts to produce chicken sustainably and ethically.  My family has trusted them for years. They have a new Subscription service that you can take advantage of to have your Perdue premium meats delivered at a discounted price. I try to eat the best and of course catch a sale.   Making healthy choices at mealtime just got easier! Order on Perdue Farms today.

How do you feel bulking for a women figure competition?

Mostly, I feel full and strong, which is excellent. While bulking, I have a ton of energy, but I do feel guilty when I am complaining about being too full. People are starving, and I have the luxury of bulking to look good in a bikini.  I am blessed I get another opportunity to pursue my goal. My goal is to put my all into this prep and pray that I have better results.  I hope you follow along, or if you are a women’s’ figure competitor and have any tips, I would love for you to share and connect.

Do you have a goal that you are pursuing this year?

Weight Loss Reality

A Quick Solution to Lose Weight

It’s a simple enough question, but with all the fads, trends, and theories it begins to get complicated. If you’re not like me and decided to go and pursue a degree in Fitness and Exercise Science the science aspect of it doesn’t matter to you. You’re looking for an answer to your question, “How do I lose weight?” and you’re are looking for fast, noticeable results, right? Then you should stop reading here because unfortunately unless you’re trying to lose 5 lbs, then you may need to have a little more patience.  I find when you break down the science it comes to three things:

  1. Mentally be ready to change.
  2. Eat Right
  3. Exercise Often and Consistently

The Real Solution to Lose Weight

I also know that it takes longer than 21 days to create a lifestyle change, so I do suggest considering an approach where you’re ready to go through this till the end. Prayerfully, by the “end” of your journey, they will say that she lived a long active, healthy lifestyle.  If you’re looking to go hard for just a few months why waste the effort and energy.  Even when you reach your goal why would you go back to your old habits and lifestyle?  Instead of looking for quick, fast results what if you wanted to do something that you never thought you could do but secretly wanted to do. Like Ballroom dancing. What if you discover that when you take Ballroom classes, you have more energy, less brain fog, better temperament, you have a sense of accomplishment and a new passion for something you thought you never could do.

That’s how you do it! You don’t put your energy and efforts into something that you don’t like to do. Fitness does not only mean treadmills, weights, and sweaty gyms. Fitness can come in the form of so many things, things that you may love. There is also a quote that I saw recently that sticks out in my head anytime I contemplate trying something’s different:

Be better than yesterday’s you

Start from where you are and just build on that day to day. You may not be able to do it today, but if you keep at it with no time limit, I guarantee you will. We have got to stop living in this microwave everything needs to happen fast and at this moment. It’s not worth it then. A homecooked takes the time to prepare, but it tastes better, is better for you, and that’s the same with gradual weight loss. If you are going to put a time limit on it, I will give it one-quarter, three months, 12 weeks, or 90 days. However, you want to look at it. If you are not feeling and seeing results after four months, quit. There are some stipulations on quitting to stop you have to had:

  • given in 100% commitment
  • Stuck with the plan with grace-meaning you did mess up and skip out but you made better decisions more than you didn’t
  • Ate right.
  • What if, in four months you do see results? When you look back, it’s going to have been a journey.

Weight Loss is in Phases

The First three weeks you started your journey this is the Puppy Love phase: you were EXCITED! Excited to eat differently and do physical activity and beginning to see some results from your effort.

Then you progress to the Dating Love Phase: It’s still new and exciting but not as much as that initial can’t wait to be with you feeling. You’ve been doing this consistent routine for about 4-6 weeks, and although yes, you did see results, it’s been 4-6 weeks when I’m going to start seeing some real muscle definition.

You’ve progressed to the “I love you, BUT you can get on my nerves” phase: it’s been 6-8 weeks you may have started to see a plateau in change. It’s been quite a commitment at this point, and you’re not just dating anymore. It’s gotten real and may not be as appealing as it once was. This is usually when the gyms start seeing a decline and people start losing focus and start gaining grace. You’re either committed to this relationship at this point, or you are looking to find another soul mate.

The next phase is “You mean a lot more to me than others” This stage you love for it is greater than the flaws, but you’re slacking. You’ve gotten comfortable, and you may let a slice of pizza pass your lips once or twice, or you may just skip your workout today, but you will be back on schedule tomorrow. You may be frustrated; you may be comfortable. Don’t get comfortable you’ve committed yourself to 8-10 weeks at this point, and you may need to try something new or switch up your workout schedule. Try a few new recipes or a new veggie each week. This is where you’re defined Why needs to be your mantra and prayer your guide. This is the day that you need to stay focused the most keep making steps towards a better you and leaning on Christ for your strength. Making it through the end of this will lead you to some of the rewards you imagined when contemplating taking this journey.

If you pushed passed the mundane, overcome the doubt you will bring yourself to the Engagement Phase. Yep, remember when you first go engaged it was different from the Puppy Love phase as you have known this man for a while now (not 10-12 weeks) but you have a passion again because you definitely see results. You have adopted better nutrition, more activity which has improved your energy and sleep. All those things that you had envisioned when you started this journey are coming to pass. You’re starting to see that you will be able to reach your goal if you maintain this new healthy lifestyle.

The Honey Moon Phase, this is the fun part of the journey because thus far it has been prayers, sweat, and tears but you have arrived at the 12-13 week mark, and you have never felt better. You’re more willing to try new things both with nutrition and physical activity. Other people have noticed too, and that is a boost to your self-esteem also. You’re more confident, and you’re operating at a better capacity than you ever had before.

That just leaves the Marriage phase which is the rest of your life. The short easy answer of being mentally ready for change, eat right and exercise often and consistently has been proven and hopefully sunk in and you continue to not only live a healthier life but show others how to do the same.

What steps do you take to live a healthier lifestyle?

Married without the Wedding: #EdDeRound2

Although, I have been married for over 15 years one thing that I have always wanted was a Wedding photo. Why? I never got to have a wedding. My husband, Coach Eddie B and I met 19 years ago through a mutual friend. We became fast friends. Eddie B was married to his first wife. I was dating my high school sweetheart. We hung out for three years as strictly friends. Spring/Summer of 2001 Eddie B got divorced from his first wife. I had broken up with my long time, yet verbally abusive high school sweetheart, a few months beforehand. Ed and I had lost touch for a few months. Then out of the blue Eddie B text me to hang out. We began to spend more time together.

I’m a Guys’ kind of Girl

I used to only hang out with males. I had no time for the emotional aspect of being a girls’ girl. It wasn’t uncommon for me to be the only girl with a group of guys. Through hanging out in the group Eddie B and I started talking more and getting to know him better. Eddie B and I used to explore  DC together. Hop on the Metro and figure out the destination later. It was a fun summer and by the end. A guy I thought of as my best friend was slowly turned into boyfriend material.

Christian but not a Believer

At the time I knew God but wanted nothing to do with Him. I equated legalistic religious rules with Christianity. So, I was not about that life. My parents forced me to attend a Christian college to help “build my faith. I was raised Christian, but I was far from a Believer. By the end of my college experience, I was more Atheist than Christian who was not my parent’s intention. I was a PARTY GIRL! Always down to do anything. I spent many happy hours in Adams Morgan, DC underage drinking and partying and often stumbling into my apartment at night.

When your best friend becomes your boyfriend

Ed and I started dating the middle of that summer. By October of that year. I was pregnant with our first daughter. My Senior year at a Christian college with a growing Scarlett letter was a memorable and isolating experience. I only had Eddie B to share it with, and that’s when I had to grow up. I already lived off campus, so Ed and I moved in together for a brief period. At the same time, I was trying to leave my roommates and living situation. So, Ed and I moved in with his Mom for about four months before we needed to move on our own. During all of this, we had gotten engaged at Union Station but didn’t want to be a pregnant bride. So…

Shotgun Wedding

My Christian college had available housing but only for married couples. Believe it or not, there were quite a few Juniors and Seniors who got their “Mrs. Degree.” Coincidentally, out of the five couples that we knew that got married that year. Ed and I are the only ones who are still married. The other four got big beautiful weddings, and we got an enduring loving marriage.  We are also the only couples in that group who had a shotgun wedding at the Justice of the Peace. All my friends got the whole wedding experience but for me.

Fantasy into Reality

We have been talking about renewing our vows for about five years. It was also probably one of the hardest years of our marriage. By year ten we were like “We should renew our vows.” We wanted to at our ten year anniversary but couldn’t afford it. I’ve always wanted a big wedding. When I was in high school, I planned every detail of my wedding. In my mind, my High school sweetheart and I were going to have this lavish wedding I planned. Despite the realities of life I still held on to my fantasy of pretty white gown, handsome groom walking down the aisles with Bubbles trailing behind us. I would watch “Yes to the Dress” on occasion. We are fantasizing about my wedding that never happened.

Then one day…

My Sister and I were talking about the wedding I have been planning for 15 years. David’s Bridal annual $99 sale was happening that day.  Out of curiosity, we went and just so happen to bring the girls, my Mom, two of my sisters and little niece. It was a Godcidence they all came. In our naivety, we thought you could just walk in and try on dresses. “Uh no!” As “Frederic” told us.  “You have to have an appointment!” We didn’t have an appointment but as we are walking out — a former client of mine who worked there tapped my shoulder.

“YES! to the dress

After telling her the story she “squeezed me in between appointments.” Many beautiful dresses later I found “The One.” When you find “The One,”  you have to buy it. BUT we were just window shopping, AND the dream dress was $800 marked down to $300 and not in the budget. Although, I found “the dress.” I told my former client I wasn’t prepared to spend $300. She said, “Hold on!” walked away with my dress and came back a few minutes later after I had gotten dress. We were about to leave; she asked if I was sure and said, “Check the tag again!” I turned it over and stapled on top of the original tag was in big red “David Bridal $99! #blessed I had and did buy it that day with no wedding plans but the perfect dress. And then the planning began. We were going to have a destination Vow Renewal in Jamaica, Dec.18, 2018.

Unexpected Postponement

Everything was planned. Then several events happened..I broke my ankle and was on unemployment for four months which was financially hard. I returned to work and just as we began to see a breakthrough in finances. Eddie B ruptured his Achilles tendon and was out for the majority of his the summer, which is when my husband trains Basketball players and brings in a nice income. Instead of working my husband was on the couch. We had to cancel our December destination wedding, and I gave up on the idea of having a wedding for the moment.

Family Vacation

Then enters 2019… We try to have a family vacation every 2-3 years. Usually, Spring break because my husband who is also a substitute teacher is off.  This year Milah decided one day she wanted to visit her Great Grandmother. My Mom, who is my travel agent found tickets for our family of five. $328 round trip TOTAL!  Thanks, Frontier for letting kids fly free! We felt obligated to go! It began as a typical family vacation itinerary; theme parks, Zoo trip, and Historical Sites.

I’m having a wedding

Then one day, after my morning devotion and prayer. I had a random thought of “What if we renew our vows in Texas; where most of may family already live?”The only thing was Eddie B’s family had to be there so; I called his Mom. She was willing and able to go to the renewal in Texas. Next, I asked my Grandmother who was ecstatic at the idea of having another wedding at her home in her backyard. Finally, I had to ask Eddie B (who is usually down for mostly anything) and another, Yes! Here it is six weeks later and in a few days will be taking our family vacation to Texas and renewing our vows.

Growing Old with your Soulmate

Eddie B and I have grown so much the last 18 years our friendship. From wild God-less college kids (Ed knew the Lord & attended Church but I was trying to discover my faith-without God) to parents and Believers.

The one thing that has remained constant is I get to live life with my best friend. We’ve figured out the marriage part (at least the first 15 years) which many don’t. Now we get the wedding too. I can’t wait to celebrate with my family,  our love and see my fantasy come to life. Sharing the experience with my girls is also going to be memorable.

So, check out my IG Story or Highlights for #EdDeRound2 and share in our love and Round 2! April 19th I will be saying “I do” all over again to my best friend!

Have you ever considered renewing your vows?

Planning family meals made easy

When I meal planned family friendly dinners consistently. We saved money, ate better and had more time to connect.  That is something that I want to get back to in 2020. After a very busy 2019 I am reflecting and looking back on the things I want to change in the New Year.  I want to go back to having family meals together. With work, sports and extracurricular schedules. It’s really hard to make time for family dinners like when the girls were little.  I find when the meals are planned and I have all the ingredients family dinners are less effort.  Perdue Farms Easy gathering Bundle Box inspired me to get back into meal planning.

how to meal plan family meals in 30 days

Something that I used to do and want to begin again is meal planning for 30 days.  It helps me budget better and makes shopping much easier. Having a variety of options and all the ingredients makes me want to cook more as well. It’s the prepping and planning that I don’t like but I love to make a delicious meal.

How do you plan family meals for 30 days?

I found its very easy to meal plan 30 different meals for the family if you get them involve.  I make a list with 3 columns. One for the diva’s, one for my husband and one for me with 10 spaces to fill their favorite meal.  It’s really that simple and I find that they very rarely duplicate but if they do it’s 30 days and a family fave it will get eaten anyways.  The goal is to have a variety and make something that every one will eat.

Perdue Farms Easy Gathering Bundle Box

I recently got to try Perdue Farm Easy Gathering Bundle which is a new meat subscription box from Perdue Farms. You can have a variety of meats shipped directly to your door.  Ready to be placed in your freezer or thawed and cooked. It made meal planning even easier because I didn’t have to do the shopping.

Where can you get organic chicken and premium meat for family meals?

Since attending Shift Con I have been trying to make sustainable efforts and to eat organic meat.  With Perdue Farms Easy Gathering Bundle Box I am able to do both. Perdue Farms does not raise chicken conventionally as well as they work with small local farmers.  The box was full recyclable and all the products were encased in brown recyclable paper and not plastic.

Easy Family Meals you can make in under 20 minutes

It was easy to add the Perdue Farms Easy Gathering Bundle box to my monthly meal plan.  I made some of our family favorites. Highlighting my husband and my diva’s three favorites.  One meal was a tie! My husband loved the Pulled Pork Sliders on Gluten Free Ciabatta Rolls with Apple Coleslaw, Sweet Potato Fries and Salad.  This was an easy three ingredient hit!!
