Today’s Prayer: Praying for communication

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

I have been married for 13 years, for some we are still in the infancy of marriage for others that is a really long time and sadly for American statistics we are breaking records. Regardless, of how long the reason why we work so well is because we openly communicate. Good, bad, ugly, embarrassing, don’t want to hear it at the moment communication. Meaning you have to both hear the words, listen to them, interpret them and then respond and it needs to be between at least two people. Now, there are some words that get misinterpreted or sometimes the hearing and listening phase of communication process get confused. In the end we both make a conscious effort to be effective communicators and when it’s not working we effectively pray that God helps us. Not just one of us but both of us. Even before my husband and I came back to Christ we communicated well, it wasn’t until after we came back to Christ (of course) that we began to pray and let God fix the connectivity issues.  Since, we have added prayer into our discussions especially the hard ones, like money, or in times we are mad. When we pray about it first and discuss it second the conversation is just so much easier. Today in your prayer time pray for your communication in your marriage and also ask your husband next time you have an issue to discuss if you could pray with him before discussing and then let God handle His business.
