Prayer: Lord, help me to grow from this test of faith.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:2-3
Remember when you were in school and your teacher told you, “you have a test?” The anxiety, the panic that all that you had worked on, reviewed, and practiced through homework, assignments, and in-class reviews would disappear leaving you clueless and alone to take this test. Now that I am back in school it’s a biweekly reality.
Then test day comes, you sit down, say a little prayer and open the page and ta-da. You know what to do; you know what is expected of you, you have been duly prepared to take the test this entire time. Your teacher has been given you ways to not only pass the test but to with flying colors. Then in a few weeks when the word “test” pops up again what do you do? Yep, panic.
Test are to make sure that the information that you have been learning, reviewing can be applied. Your continual experience should prepare you for the next test and give you more confidence in your teacher that they will prepare you for the test.
God is always teaching us, reviewing and preparing us for a test that will come in our life. Our teacher is constantly giving us every skill and tool that we need to not only pass the test but exceed expectations. Using God to lean on during this detox is a test of your faith. Can God supply me with what I want? Can God help me control my need for sugar? Really? Is their doubt?
We don’t need a God who can do what we do. We need a God who can do more. Our God is capable of not only overcoming addictions, delivering us from ourselves but He can also use this test for your testimony to others. He is building a stronger, wiser, prepared you and setting precedents for the future so that you may grow.
In your Prayer time, today ask God not only to help you pass this test but to grow from it too.
How have you grown in faith from past test in your life?
