And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13
So, I am pre-warning you if you have a hold on temptation and self-control the next three days will not be for you. We are going to be looking at temptation from several angles. As you know, I am a Fitness enthusiast, and I love to lift weights. It’s my alternative to therapy. When I lift or design a workout program for myself or clients, I like to work each muscle from every angle. Why just focus on the front when you have a side and back to it. I decorate my Christmas tree the same all sides are covered. That is how I pray too. It’s just the Type An organizer in me, but I like to cover it ALL.
When it comes to temptation, I don’t think that one size fits all. I believe that we need to surround ourselves in prayer and fill ourselves with the Word. Leaning and trusting in God more than we usually do because we are battling for our Intrinsic motivation to indulge in things that don’t serve our temple. We are praying to be rewired, to forget our old ways and to be delivered from our temptation.
It would even be nice if the entire experience could be straightforward and painless, right? Pray to God, “Please deliver me from temptation” then POOF! DONE! Going to that social function with the donut tower for breakfast and the bagel basket and maybe a bowl of mostly melon fruit salad at the end cause “it’s healthy” and wash it all down with a cup of sugar, I mean Orange Juice. We’ve got this because we prayed. Unfortunately, like you prefer to teach your child how to tie their shoes versus being their lifetime shoe tier. God wants to prune us, grow a stronger relationship with us and for us to use Him, lean on Him when there are things we feel we can not control.
The next three days, these prayers are just that. I am asking you to lean in and work you conquering your temptation from all angles. Are you in?
What do you find most tempting and how do you overcome it or do you just give in? Why?
