Does busy equal important?

Psalm 62:1 (NIV) Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

not busy

What I knew

I was always taught “idle hands are the devils playground.” It has stuck with me all throughout my life.  Always busying myself with task, some meaningful and some meaningless.  Then, I became a mother and applied that to my children. Signing them up for classes, keeping their weekly calendar full with outings, play dates and activities.  Teaching them that they should always have something to do and not allowing them to have time of rest or leisure. When I came back to Christ a few years ago, I was reintroduced to the story of Mary and Martha.

Luke 10:41-42 (NIV) “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed onl...

Overweight Physically & Underweight Spiritually

Embarking on a weight loss journey

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though He is not far from any one of us, Acts 17:27

Weight loss is a journey. What happens to you when you realized the reason you are overweight physically and underweight spiritually? You do something about it. About 4 months ago, I got fed up with my physical appearance and embarked on a weight loss journey.  The first month was easy mentally. I hired a virtual trainer, I was seeing results and was happy to find something that worked.  Then, the next month came and that beginning puppy love started to wear off.  I had more than being physically overweight to deal with; which is often the case when losing weight...

Why do I need mom time?

Sometimes you just need time for mom. Uninterrupted time for yourself to be yourself. Being a stay at home mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world-I know that is so cliche. First, you are responsible for some pretty demanding clients, 24 hours 7 days a week. Although, they love you they can sometimes show little to no grace for your well being. Like, you just mopped the floor and that would be the best time to explore the laws of gravity with their applesauce container.  Now the saving grace of being a mom is the benefits far exceed the labor.  Yes, the pay is truly unfair and there is no sick or vacation days...

Outside of my Comfort Zone

still

The voice of the Lord twists the oaks ad strips the forest bare. An in his temple all cry, Glory! Psalms 29:9

Lacking the ability of direction

I have a horrible sense of direction. Always have not sure if it’s inherited but my mother does too. Get us together and we are the blind leading the blind. I learned when my daughter was in 2nd grade that we all have certain genius’. And spatial genius-being good a directions and space, that is something that I lack.

So, for the last year I have felt lost.  Like, I know I am going in some sort of direction but a little confused.  I have been seeking God’s guidance and his response has been, “be still.”  Well they tell you when you are lost to stay still till someone finds you, right? I am not the stay still type of person...

Finding a better way

Behind every picture is a story; We all know that and looking at the last few years of my life pictures I definitely have one to tell.  August 1, I woke up and decided that I had enough with my current health. I was eating well enough, but I still was over indulging on sugar, my portions were ridiculous and using my boredom as an excuse to nibble on snacks.  I didn’t feel content in the body I was in, it didn’t match the image in my head. So, I decided to do something. I posted about how I found Beyond Fit Mom, and how I was making changes in my life. Well here I am 60 days later and I have totally created a new lifetime habit. I wanted to blog about this because there are a lot of mom’s who have shown the before and after but not a lot that shows the during...

Raised in the Church not Christ

Church Rules

Colossians 2:20-23 (NIV) 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:21“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Raised in the Church

The legalistic church I grew up in focused on rules; You had to do this, dress like this, eat this, say this to get into the kingdom of heaven...

Meant to be together

alone

I don’t think I realized my need for a community or friends until I left college.  When you’re in a social setting that surrounds you with opportunities to create friendships, it’s easy.  Then I got married, had a baby, and moved six hours away from my friends, family and the life I had made. I went through seasons of life in a flash. We lived in Massachusetts and my husband was following his career aspirations and worked long hours. I stayed at home with our newborn daughter and although I wasn’t alone I felt very much alone.  It took years to make friends, which were just mom friends of children that my daughter grew up with.  There were a few lasting bonds as our children grew older but nothing like my good ole college days.

A change of heart

Six years later, we moved back to my h...

Modesty doesn’t define faith

picture-2

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13

This is typically not the Bible verse used when discussing the way Christian women should dress. I think that since we are representing ourselves within society that it could appropriately be considered as part of what God calls us to do. He appointed us to be the means of preventing or curing the growth of that corruption which prevails in the world, and of seasoning people’s minds with wisdom and grace.* Typically, when discussing the way women should dress;
1 Timothy 2:9-10 (NIV) I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate...

Birth of a Calling

god lead

Proverbs 16:9 In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Eighteen months ago a baby was born;  Faith fueled Mom. God had put this on my heart a few months before my third daughter was born. We will be celebrating her first birthday on Friday, July 3rd.  Being the Mompreneur for 10 years prior, when I received the idea for FFM I had instantly decided that it could be a new business venture.  (Haha can you hear God laughing?) I quickly drew up the business plan, pieced together a logo, created a make shift website and BAM! I would add this to my plate too.

Then, I actually became a mother for the third time and unexpectedly my life changed. Unlike, with my other daughters this time I resisted this life change...

My Need for Discernment

This Or That Way Directions On A Wooden SignpostAccording to the dictionary, discernment means “the quality of being able to grasp or comprehend what is obscure.” This is not a strong trait of mine.  That saying, “can’t you just take a hint?” NO! I am very black and white; concrete thinker. When it comes to picking up on clues that’s what I need God for.  I have to pray everyday for his help in this department, sometimes several times a day depending on the day that I am having.

B

Now we (and I am referring to saved Christians) know God leads we follow, whether we actually follow that is another blog post.  Some of us stumble along and others confidently go on our way.  He opens doors we graciously or reluctantly walk or bump into them. I wish there was always a clear cut path to take.  I struggle with this in parenting too...
