When things look bad

Have you ever had one of those “Rotten, terrible, no good, very bad days?” Weeks? Months?  I have to say that most days I am highly blessed and favored. Then there are those few moments in life where I feel like God was working on something or someone else that day? week? and sometimes even months? I know better but sometimes I let my feelings rule. On those days my annoyances get in the way it’s very hard to see anything else. The way I handled those days before Jesus is much different than how I would handle it today.

Girl in Time Out

James 1:2-4 (NIV) Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance...

Does busy equal important?

Psalm 62:1 (NIV) Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

What I knew

I was always taught “idle hands are the devils playground.” It has stuck with me all throughout my life.  Always busying myself with task, some meaningful and some meaningless.  Then, I became a mother and applied that to my children. Signing them up for classes, keeping their weekly calendar full with outings, play dates and activities.  Teaching them that they should always have something to do and not allowing them to have time of rest or leisure. When I came back to Christ a few years ago, I was reintroduced to the story of Mary and Martha.

Luke 10:41-42 (NIV) “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed onl...

Why do I need mom time?

Sometimes you just need time for mom. Uninterrupted time for yourself to be yourself. Being a stay at home mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world-I know that is so cliche. First, you are responsible for some pretty demanding clients, 24 hours 7 days a week. Although, they love you they can sometimes show little to no grace for your well being. Like, you just mopped the floor and that would be the best time to explore the laws of gravity with their applesauce container.  Now the saving grace of being a mom is the benefits far exceed the labor.  Yes, the pay is truly unfair and there is no sick or vacation days...

Raised in the Church not Christ

Church Rules

Colossians 2:20-23 (NIV) 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:21“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Raised in the Church

The legalistic church I grew up in focused on rules; You had to do this, dress like this, eat this, say this to get into the kingdom of heaven...

Modesty doesn’t define faith

picture-2

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13

This is typically not the Bible verse used when discussing the way Christian women should dress. I think that since we are representing ourselves within society that it could appropriately be considered as part of what God calls us to do. He appointed us to be the means of preventing or curing the growth of that corruption which prevails in the world, and of seasoning people’s minds with wisdom and grace.* Typically, when discussing the way women should dress;
1 Timothy 2:9-10 (NIV) I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate...

My Need for Discernment

This Or That Way Directions On A Wooden SignpostAccording to the dictionary, discernment means “the quality of being able to grasp or comprehend what is obscure.” This is not a strong trait of mine.  That saying, “can’t you just take a hint?” NO! I am very black and white; concrete thinker. When it comes to picking up on clues that’s what I need God for.  I have to pray everyday for his help in this department, sometimes several times a day depending on the day that I am having.

Now we (and I am referring to saved Christians) know God leads we follow, whether we actually follow that is another blog post.  Some of us stumble along and others confidently go on our way.  He opens doors we graciously or reluctantly walk or bump into them. I wish there was always a clear cut path to take.  I struggle with this in parenting too...

Father’s Day Gift Dilemma

In my house of 3 little diva’s I have to say that my husband is pretty much the king. He has three little daddy’s girls and I am pretty fond of him myself. This week of father’s day and with the chaos of end of school, baby’s first birthday party planning, garden harvesting and of course the everyday task of maintaining my household. I am at a Father’s day gift dilemma. I usually plan a little something and I have gotten his Father’s Day card while I was out and about; but I like to give meaningful memorable gifts to my husband.

He is an amazing father and for not having any guidance from his own he is simply a natural. Raising a tween, 7 year old and baby girl is a hard task and his infinite patience and attention to detail...
